Bensham & Saltwell Cooks…pastry

The next ‘Bensham & Saltwell Cooks…’ event takes place on Saturday 3rd August, 1-3pm at St Chads Community Project where we will be making pastry from scratch and a number of dishes to use it with. We encourage anyone who wants to come down and participate to bring their own ingredients and cook along with chef Rob Stewart. Below is what will be cooked and a  list of ingredients you will need. Cooking equipment and ingredients will also be provided. See you there!

If you can’t make it you can follow the workshop on Twitter  and you can catch up on previous workshops on the events page of this blog.

Saltwell Community Voting Box comes to an end…

Over June, July and August the Saltwell Community Voting Box was placed in locations along and around Saltwell Rd to find out what the people of Saltwell thought about living in the area and to try and understand how it could be improved. The box had varying degrees of success at the different locations but it was still interesting to see what people thought.

The box threw up some interesting results which I hope to share with people soon and find out what the next step is and how we as a community can work on improving the place we live.

The voting box maybe finished for now in Saltwell, but if you have any questions or thoughts about it or a place you would like to see it then please get in touch.

How would you use the space?

To the west of Saltwell Road next to the main railway line to the north is three large football pitch sized spaces where housing used to be.

This space is to built on with new family housing in the near future.

What would you do with the space in the meantime before the housing is built? What can it be used for? Community projects? Sport or cultural events? What would you recommend?

How do you use the site now? What do you do on it? If you don’t, what stops you?

What would you like to see in the community?

We would like to hear your ideas and thoughts on how these spaces can be used temporarily, maybe a one off event or short term project. Through developing short term projects what long term ideas can be brought to the area of Saltwell for the benefit of the community? What do you feel is missing from the area and how can we, as residents, improve the place where we live?
